VOTE: should we keep this course active?Interest and participation has waned to a trickle over the past month. Initial participation was awesome, but very few homework assignments have been completed recently. Also, no-one (except the course creator, me) has contributed to Lesson 4, exercises 2,3, or 4 - which are intended to be the real MEAT of the course, where deep exploration and learning would occur. So... what do you think? Should I continue this course, or let it expire at the end of March? This brings up a good point, and I'd like to expand this question to that of all classes in general. I've gotten feedback that classes should not use a specific start/end date and instead just be an open class with a suggested length. In this scenario, every class would remain "active" indefinitely. The benefit of this is that people can join at any time. The downside is that it makes it harder for the class creator to stay involved forever. So if anyone has opinions on this concept in addition to pbr's initial question I'd be interested to hear them. I hope it's still active. I just signed up so I could learn Vim and practice reading code. I'm game to stay active as the creator/coordinator for the course. What I'm not game for is checking in daily for two weeks straight, only to find that no-one's really done anything. I'm dying to see some feedback on the lesson 4 assignments. So... we're back to motivating people somehow. Kevin, we've talked about this a little - potentially emailing people with "incomplete" or "lack of progress" or similar to hopefully light a fire under them, if they don't submit homework for a week or something like that. Regarding not having end dates; I agree, the course should just be open. Maybe that could be an option for courses; open-ended vs. bounded. Regards, -pbr I'm still checking this course from time to time (at least once a week) to see if anyone's making progress on any of the assignments. So, if you're wondering if you should invest time in a particular exercise - please do! -Paul I'd like to get involved, but I think I'll have to wait until you offer the course again. I'm a bit busy atm.
